CP575 is a digital notice that confirms your Employer Identification Number. It is available only through Business Tax Account and can be used as a substitute for the original CP575A-J notice series and Letter 147C, EIN Previously Assigned.
What you need to do
- Keep this notice in your permanent records.
- Use your EIN on all items you send to the IRS and the Social Security Administration in connection with your business activities.
Your deadline
Answer by the date printed on your notice. If there is no date, answer as soon as you can, and call the number on the notice if you need more time.
What to check before you answer
Is this letter really from the IRS?
The IRS writes first by mail. A real letter shows a notice or letter number, your name and part of your tax ID number. The IRS does not ask for payment by gift card, crypto or wire transfer. If in doubt, sign in to your IRS online account, where many notices are listed.
You may want to
- Make several copies of the notice as it can be used when EIN verification is requested for business purposes.
Common questions
Why would I need to confirm my EIN?
You may need to confirm your EIN when you open a bank account for your entity or obtain other business services.
Can I request a copy of my original CP575A-J notice?
No. The original CP575A-J series, Notice of New Employer Identification Number, cannot be duplicated or recreated.
Is the digital CP575 the equivalent of Letter 147C, EIN Previously Assigned?
Yes. The digital CP575 is accepted by banks and other institutions as written confirmation of an entity’s EIN.
